Huh, I thought that adjusting the timing of these flushes was part of the discussion in regards to bringing back the health and vitality of the fish in the area...

Shoot! I have a trip planned up there that weekend. Anyone ever fished the day after a flush?

I havent.
Maybe Terry at Lees Ferry Anglers can comment on this. I have heard that it can stir things up and stimulate some good activity but im not sure if thats more likely after the event is over...Ray |

I fished the walk in the days following the last high water event. It was fantastic.

I have had great success immediately after a flush.
BUT.......this is so much bullshirt. Don't let them convince you they are doing these high flows to "mimic natural flows".......take a look at every moving water in the state and notice how low, slow and clear the water is. We don't get heavy flows in the fall. This is meant to completely disrupt the non native trout spawn. By the time native fish could use the new beaches and specifically the backwaters to spawn (spring) caused by this they will have already washed down stream. Hmmmm and not only that but the native fish need 70 degree water to spur spawning which the river never gets to...this drives my insane. Wolf in Sheep's clothing people. |

I'm not an expert by no means, but I'm concerned about the food source and the smaller fish. From what I remember we had a lot of spawning rainbows and smaller fish. Will this flush them as well?

ill never understand the Feds decisions when it comes to fish and water management, I thought it was only an AZ thing, but sadly its just as F'ed up here.
all I'm hoping for with this HFE ( isn't the E an "experiment" and havnt we seen that its a failure?!) is that by late december , the streamer fishing will be going off. Im guessing it should be, since they will have flushed all the smaller food/ vegetation out of the river.

KC swinging streamers will definitely catch all 8 fish that exist in that river / desert.
