Tube Flies
Sep 14, 2017 - 9:34 PM - by ejcrist
Anyone around here tie tube flies? I'm just starting to get into it and ordered an HMH Spinner vice for tying them. It seems to me tube flies would do very well for Pike up at Lake Mary and probably for Bass too down here in the valley lakes. I haven't ran into very many people in AZ tying on tubes but maybe that's because most fly fisherman here seem to go after trout exclusively, and tube flies wouldn't be very applicable in that area IMO.

Frye Creek/Gila Trout Update
Sep 14, 2017 - 10:54 AM - by Fish Manager
As most are probably aware we had a wildfire blow through the Gila Trout habitat in the Pinaleno Mountains in July. Surveys were completed earlier this week and the outcome for the fish and the habitat is devastating.

I'm sad to report that there were no fish sampled in either Ash Creek or Frye Creek. We were hopeful that fish had survived in these areas but the damage was much worse than we had expected. Going forward we will be assessing our options for getting fish back... [Read More]

Personal Flotation Devices

The Dream Stream and Trout Unlimited
Sep 11, 2017 - 3:55 PM - by Bucksnort
For those of you who make trips to the Dream Stream and who adore the location, let me tell you how close all of us came to never being able to easily access the two parking areas above the gauging station.

As you know, there is a parking area across the road from the gauging station. This gives you good access to the river below the station. If you continue south on the road from the station and in about one quarter of a mile, you turn right or west, to access the two... [Read More]

White River Reports?
Sep 12, 2017 - 5:36 PM - by jchar85719
I am heading up to the White Mountains with my wife this weekend. She is not real big on fishing, but has agreed to go fly fishing with me for a half day or so. We are staying in Hon-Dah Thursday night. One possibility is fishing the White River off of highway 73 near the hatchery as it is close to the resort. I have not fished this section of the White. I have fished the section of the White from Hawley Lake bridge to Paradise Creek several times with mixed success.

I... [Read More]
