Fishing Rigg's Flat (Lake)

I may end up staying in Tucson to work 1 or 2 days this weekend and if I work only one day, I may go out to Riggs Flat lake. It is a 3 hour drive from Tucson but only lake close to Tucson that is getting stocked this week. Has anyone every fished this lake and how would it be for fly fishing? or would Rose Canyon lake be better since only an 1 hour drive up Mt Lemmon (even though been 2-3 weeks since stocked).

Rose Canyon is a circus on the weekends and my guess fished out by now. During the week, early morning couple days after stocked can be pretty good at this time of year. It's been years since I fished Riggs so IDK.

Riggs will not be stocked this week due to high pH. Reports have been fairly good though and anglers are catching fish.

Rose is pretty much what BtheBlue said on the weekends. Plan to be there at sunrise during the week and you should catch some fish.

I would go with Rose Lake. It can be a circus on weekends. The good thing is that there are Holdover Brown Trout. They do not care for the bait like the Stocked Rainbows do, and are better caught on the Fly.

I prefer Riggs but its a haul if you are doing it in a day. It's a fun lake to fish, especially from a tube. You can always get some top water action up there and the temps are a little cooler at Riggs. Rose is a nice place to wet a line in a pinch. Very easy access and good temps with mostly sub surface action. That's my two cents.

Riggs Flat has always fished well for me despite the Ph spike that occurs every year and halts stockings. I am usually there a bit earlier or later in the season so I really don't know about the crowds. I have only caught Browns there, no bows. I can't imagine it will be any busier than RC but it is a journey from the base of Mt. Graham up to the lake. Are you dead set on a lake?

Well, I am not opposed to creek fishing, but it depends on how hard it is to access it and work it. I have had several laser spinal surgeries on my back and knees are not what they used to be. I guess I should of given up playing soccer before turning 57. Anyway, I don't know of any creeks really other than up on RIM?
