A shield would definitely be helpful, especially since it's rarely 100% still and calm when you're in the backcountry.

Off topic but along the same lines for a light lantern.
Cut a vertical slit down the side of a can, then cut two horizontal slits, one above and one below the vertical as if you are making a capital letter I. You now have two seperate "doors" in the can that you can pull outward. Place a small candle inside and light it. Your flame will be sheilded from wind on 3 sides and the can does a good job of reflecting the light out of the opening. Its enough to read by in a tent at night. If you dont cut the vertical slit too far down, then the wax just pools in the bottom instead of spilling. Ive used the same device to dry and then ignite dripping wet tinder on a dismal cold night. Tight lines ![]() That burner is way cool though. Best 7 minutes ive invested in an online video in a long time...thanks for sharing it. Sad to say, but it seems a beercan is never far out of reach, despite the fact that you might be in the back woods....there is always litter if you look. I did get a momentary "hey yall watch this" mental moment when he grabbed the lighter though. Lol i just cant help being a redneck at heart I suppose. Great Post Todd,
While camping in a remote location a hiker almost cut off his finger while trying to make one. He was showing off to his buddies... They are cool but I would not make one unless I had to while camping.

I wouldn't even bother making one. I have a stove. I just thought it was cool how he made it with one hand tool.
