I was going to comment on.... this thread, but cannot get passed all the "A" words that come to mind. I think I will go fishing. Sorry, I cannot tell you where my secret honey hole is (probably cause I have not worn out my boots yet to find one).

I can help you get past the “A” words you’re looking for to describe my post(s): aerudite, airreverent and ainsouciant. As for divulging your personal honey hole, with all due respect – don’t want it, don’t need it.

In exploration geology, there’s an age-old axiom - "If you’re hunting elephants, go to elephant country". If I’m fishing Big Bonito Creek trying to catch trout (particularly bigger trout) I dredge a nymph in spots where bigger trout tend to be – deeper water with structure. (A little more to it than that, but you get the drift.) IMHO, those spots aren’t honey holes, they’re simply places where every good fly fisherman would prospect. I suspect an overwhelming percentage of closely guarded “honey holes” are: spots in a given stream/river that require a mile, or two, or three of hiking upstream or downstream from a campground/access point; spots with trout-friendly telltale structure/characteristics; spots where a competent fly fisherman can deliver the right fly in the right manner and catch something of note. That’s not a honey hole, that’s just good fly fishing; nothing deserving of a medal, and certainly not anything to covet or hide. Which is why I find the whole “honey hole” thing amusing and somewhat perplexing... don't get it.

Hope I haven't offended or insulted anyone with this reply - was not my intent.

Always say the same thing about honey holes. It's all in the walking. They're usually in the guide books or some Brookie loving fool spilled the beans online at some time or another.

I purposely added an "a" - aerudite, airreverent and ainsouciant. It was a play on finding "A" words from the post I was replying to. Guess I was too subtle. My mistake.
