Hmmmm Seems one forgets ASU is the secondary school in this state. Uof A was the first University. Both founded in 1885 but ASU did not become a University till after 1900. the reason they had to call themselves Az "State" University. The same as almost all "State" Universities did as there was already a University representing the State.

And as for sports well let's see.
The UA leads the all-time record against ASU in men's basketball (145–80), football (47–38–1), and baseball (234–202–1).
