There is a fly shop in Montrose (CJ's) which is about 20 miles or so from Delta. Whenever I'm in the area on business I always stop there. One reason is because its a mom and pop store and even if I don't need anything I always buy something to support them. The 2nd reason I always stop is that the owner (Carl) is friends with Tom Whiting. I've learned that if I ever need any hard to find capes or saddles I only need to call Carl and some how he's always able to find the Whiting feathers I need. Oh I still pay the going rate so there isn't any discount but the capes and saddles are amazing with regards to quality and colors.

I met Ted Hebert at the Fly Tackle dealer show a while back..had a suitcase full of necks. Said he couldn't work things out with his ex, following an ugly divorce, and sold out his stock and flock to Whiting.

The combination of colors from his hackles with Hoffman length feathers, who knows what other mixes, produced the current genetics, amazing selections of Whiting capes, saddles, etc. -the quality is incredible.

Interesting Thanks for sharing!!! I still have some 30 year metz and some old hackle bought in the 70s. I met Henry Hoffman in 1989 when he was looking to sell. As I recall he raised 2000 birds a year. Dr Whiting has done an amazing job.
