I love the patterns on Charlie’s flybox and used them quite a bit when I was first starting out. Step by step with a picture of each step.

Good advice...even if you eventually choose to whip finish without a tool, a Matarelli-style whip finish tool is essential to start out.

Umpqua, Wapsi companies make good beginning tying kits...the Eric Leiser tying book that came with one of them is a pretty good manual as well.

Although it is a little pricey but can be found used on Amazon . I highly advise getting The Fly Tier's Benchside Reference by [Ted Leeson, Jim Schollmeyer] . It has everything you want to know about how to properly attach materials and why .

If you live in the east side of the valley, Desert Fly Casters also offers free tying lessons.

I started at the tender age of 9, using some books. Still going strong 37 years later! Luckily I had a father who supported my obsession
