Stay up at the lake campgrounds, with a plus of heated showers that are there. That dirt road into Cottonwood with a winter storm may get really nasty. You could end up staying longer than planned for down there. The listed midge stuff for that time of for the river with a mix of a few midges hatches. I like woolly buggers, bunny leeches, glo bugs, and san juan worm patterns.

Hope you hit the river right for one of those afternoon midge hatches in the upper flats that goes on for hours. Some great dry fly fishing fun can be had along with beat the tip of the fly rod on the water.

Sorry about the late reply on the trip. February fishing on the San Juan saw few people on the river during the week and fickle fish. I brought to hand as few as 6 fish in a day and over 20 on the biggest count day. The fish were healthy, head shaking bundles of muscle. The tip on the lake campground was greatly appreciated, hot shower every morning. Solo camping made for some tedium on those short days of the year, but got caught up on reading. Plan on going next year around the same time.
