I false cast way way way way way too often! Hahaha this post makes me sad when I apply it to my technique. It got me into a lot of trouble this weekend. So as the hours passed I slowly started to just backcast once and lay, or in my technique SLAM, my fly back on the water. This weekend put things into perspective as far as my casting technique. Interesting thread.

Chase sipping carp. You will learn very quickly to lay a fly softly on the water.

NO. You just need one backcast to double haul. Fals cast is when you throw your foward cast and then back cast again, and again.

Not true. a false cast may be neccesary for a drastic change in direction. Personally on small streams I like to use a single handed spey cast (roll cast) as I can change directions 180 degrees with one backcast.

Did you read my next post? This is getting so nit-picky at this point, but if we are being technical - if you are going to double haul it is highly likely you are false casting at least once.

That is, of course, unless your line is in front of you, you haul it back off the water, then haul it on a single forward cast. But then would the first haul be considered a water haul? Does that count?

You would probably still end up false casting..

This is interesting, I mean if you're changing 180 degrees, you just turned around, so that back cast is now your forward cast. Or not a backcast at all...

But I'm with mharri, this thread is getting stupid. I think some people have the blues this week. The normal helpful, friendly tone has taken an edge the past few days. We all have preferences, our tastes differ, and the words we use might not share the exact definition as you. Whatever, lets just go fish and have fun and quit wasting time saying, "You did/said it wrong!"
