Super Skeeter - Mr Smith

The super skeeter is a generic midge pattern that will work anytime trout are rising on small bugs. I have caught fish at Chevelon, Lee Valley and Oak creek on this fly. At Lee valley it accounted for an innumerable amount of average fish and one large 16"+ apache.

Hook: size 18 dry
Thread: 8/0 rusty dun
Tail: 2 Individual fibers from the tip of a gray saddle feather from a pheasant
Body: Thread
Rib: The remainder after the tail is tied in.
1st hackle: Brown rooster neck appx. size 14 make two wraps.
2nd hackle: size 16 grizzly hackle, fill it in nice.
finish with three half hitches and a little cement.

It is a very simple fly that is very effective when fish are actively rising. Granted almost any right sized fly will work when they are actively rising. At Lee Valley that day it wasnt the case. It was my skeeter or nothing.
