Pointless Brown trout kill at Lees Ferry

No public announcement of this pointless targeting and killing of spawning brown trout at Lees Ferry this month. Thanks National Park Service at Glen Canyon

Trout removal at the Lee's Fairy (Grand Canyon) area has been discussed, on and off, on this website for 10 years.

Joe, you are right and it's time we do something about it! For those of you on Facebook, please check out the post that was just made on the Glen Canyon Park Service Page. If you are against the meaningless killing of Brown AND rainbow trout in lees ferry, please share the thread with everyone you know. Enough is enough...

Yes, trout removal has been STUPIDLY discussed for many years but few ever thought that it would actually happen at the Ferry simply because it makes no sense (unless you happen to be a bureaucrat that is always appointed and never has to answer for their decisions). Destroying all those beautiful, trophy fish defies even a hint of reason. As for protecting endangered species down stream, I suspect that you could remove every trout that exists all the way from Glen Canyon Dam down to the study area 80 miles down stream and you would see little or no increase in suckers and chubs in the Lees Ferry stretch of river because it's too stinking cold for those fish. Protecting endangered species is always a worthy goal but somewhere in this there needs to be a dose of common sense. I believe the bureaucrats will only work around the edges and not actually completely destroy the fishery but that doesn't prevent them from suppressing it to the point that it may never be the incredible fishery that it used to be and still could be again. But watch. We'll continue to see studies, discussion of studies, deliberation of studies, then more studies, more deliberation (along with much hand ringing), all paid for with tax payer money (our money!!) and our special, formerly world class fishery will continue to waffle in mediocrity or even deteriorate further. It seems all I can hope for is that as the swamp begins to drain (the plug is being pulled today) it will reach farther than just the bottom dwellers is Washington. Maybe if we all pray earnestly enough a few to these local self righteous bureaucrats will get sucked down with them or maybe just the threat of that may force them to set aside their sense of self appointed Godly authority and use a certain degree of common sense and pragmatism.

Didn't find a page with the specific name above nor a post on the topic on other pages resembling Glen Canyon Park Service??
