****New Fly Shop in PHX!!!!****

ATTN: if this is in the wrong place, if the mods would please move accordingly, we'd appreciate it.

Hey guys, just letting everyone know that there will be a new fly shop opening in PHX in April!!!!

Right now, the name of it is AZFlyShop. We're planning on opening the brick-and-mortar store on or about April 1st. We're planning on this to be a full-service shop, complete with casting lessons, fly-tying/fishing/rod-building tutorials, regular speakers on all things fly-fishing, fly-fishing trip packages, etc. More details to come very soon.

What we need right now is some feedback. We'll be posting some polls in the next few weeks to get a more precise picture of your needs/desires, but for now we'd like you to just post what you think a flyshop should be.

Anything is on the table. Brands/models, things you liked about a certain store, things you didn't, etc.

For now, if you could keep your list to under 10 items would be great.

We're very excited about this new concept flyshop and we have great plans that we can't wait to share with you soon!!! Please help us better serve the PHX area with your input.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Richard Kim
Manager, The AZFlyShop

Good to know.

I hear people asking how to learn how to fly fish.

Yeah, last summer around the Anthem ponds I saw several people trying to figure out how, with obviously brand-new Walmart quality gear. First time I ever saw another fly fisherman around those ponds since i moved here.

Ended up teaching several of them the fundamentals of casting, fly selection, etc. Even scouted for two of them for awhile.

All of them said that they'd always thought about trying to learn, but never had the time, until the virus shut down most of their other normal activities.

We're hoping that there's plenty of budding fly fishermen and women and kids in PHX that just need a flyshop to not only get them geared up, but also teach them how to catch fish on a fly rod, and even send them out on a fly fishing trip.

Btw, is it always this busy around here? Been a while, but I remember it being more . . . lively?

Unfortunately, this is about normal now. Good luck on your endeavor. Wish we had a fly shop in the Verde valley.

Looking forward to your shop!

Trevor Creighton is an elementary school teacher in the Payson Unified School District #10. He has been running a fly fishing school for his students (mainly 5th grade) for several years and has obtained the services of many local and talented fly fishers and tyers.

Perhaps this is something your new shop could look into?

I don't recall if Trevor is a member of this crowd or not, but he is usually quite active on many Arizona Fly Fishing pages found on Facebook.

Good luck!

Carry items that people actually need and that sell.
Don't just carry fly fishing stuff. Carry other things that are a convenience (hunting supplies, back country hiking supplies, maps, etc)
Be a local "source" for all things fly fishing in Arizona (where to go, how to get there, what works, safety in the dry climate, what trout are in AZ, etc)
Sell access permits.
Think outside the box.
