Painting in process
Thought you guys might like to see what one of these paintings looks like before it's done.
This one really only has spots and fins left. This is a commission I'm doing for my buddy Jed Stewart. It's actually the second painting I've done for him. The first was that life size representation of a 30" brown he caught. This 22" fish is a life-size version of a cutbow he caught. Believe it or not, this big fish was the first he ever caught on a flyrod! Just thought some people might like to see one of these works in progress. I'll post the finished product soon. ![]()

I think I fixed it. That's weird, the image appeared for me twice and once I had the red X. Put it in my AZFAT gallery, so it should be good now.

looks awesome.
I envy your control of such a loose medium. I like the hard contour lines too. I cant tell from the photo .. did you leave some graphite shading in some of the refective areas? it would be cool to see you play w/ some refected images in those areas ( photographer, background scenes etc.. just a thought)

Reflection of the background (foreground?) would be really cool in that space. Good idea. Not what this guy was looking for in his commission, but something I'll have to play around with on my own. Images (even silhouettes) never reflect quite like you think they would on fish's body, except for on the eye. That silhouette looks just like a "fish eye" shot of the photog sometimes. Pretty cool. This fish was not painted from a definitive photograph, so I just to make the reflections up this time.

The depth is the coolest part...truly not only a artist at fly fishing but with a gifted hand with this beautiful medium...the transions of colors, the blending, highlighting critical areas, only can be made by gifted hands...

I understand w/ the commission. youre kind of at the mercy of whos payin you!
but yeah I think that could look real cool. the distortion of the images in that reflection would be really interesting both as a viewer and id hope for you as well. hope to see you give it a try in the future!
