Fly Fishing Silver Creek
I am pretty new to fly fishing and would like to go up to Silver Creek from the valley of the Sun for a few days. Not exactly sure where I should be going. Any tips for good places to fly fish?

You will be fishing with bait fisherman all day long and most holes are taken...5 miles east of Showlow on 60 and then turn north on Bordan Ranch Rd for 5 miles and your there....

Might as well fish the local hatchery.

I wouldn't bother right now. Wait until Oct when the special regs start and land a few incentive fish wirh Flashback. My parents live 5 minutes from the creek and I gave up fishing there during bait season years ago.

After the 5 miles, turn right on Hatchery Rd- Creek's about a quarter mile off the pavement.

The Whites are a good place to be right now...but not Silver creek. Probably have a better time by going a little farther and fishing one of the lakes higher up on the mountain or on the Res. IMO its prettier up at the higher elevations this time of the year anyway....Monsoon rains have turned everything GREEN...i spent as much time looking around and taking in the views when I was at Crescent last week as I did fishing!!!

Go early, it's a hot valley and a shallow creek so the water heats up fast. Use egg patterns and small nymphs. Probably will be pretty slow best time is October/November when it's catch and release and the big boys are stocked. Also as far as I remember from being up there last year, the upper/bigger section isn't opened yet. I think these guys are right, you may want to hit the black our the white. Send me a PM if you need advise.

I live 5 minutes from Silver Creek. You do not want to go fish there after that drive. Drive on to Becker and catch some great fish. Scenery not that great but fish are. I haven't been there this summer. But ask Flashback if it is any good right now. He will know. I think the water is too warm there right now. But Becker is awesome. Whatever Chief or Flashback tell you.....trust them. They know what they are talking about. Always.
BTW Butch, I took a young girl to SC and we couldn't even catch a fish with power bait. Just skip SC for now. Wait and watch this website. When SC heats up and get's good you will know. The guys will let you know when SC gets good and THEN you go hit SC. Right now it would be a total waste of your time. Last edited by Gemrod; 09-01-2011 at 09:31 PM. |

20-Inch Triploid Beauty The fish are really nice-but the fishing is a bit slow right now. As the water temperature cools down, the fishing is going to get better. Looking at the 10 day forecast, on the 6th, the lows up here are going to dip down to the upper 40's and the highs are lowering from near 80 to the low 70's. I think some great fishing is just around the corner. ![]()
