Canyon opens wide

Hit canyon lake today with Lee D. from the Scottsdale Orvis store. we caught probably 10 fish between 1.5-3 pounds and one 8 pounder on a conventional gear swimbait by Osprey. Backed that up with an 8.5 pounder on a manny chee design bed fly. Most productive areas where in 67 degree water. Cloudy conditions and off colored water kept us focusing on fish in less that 10 feet. I can imagine the activity in 15-20 is even better. We saw the better fish hanging around the inside point of coves that have access to deeper water. Smaller fish where further back in the coves and super shallow. The great thing was also plenty of fish, and our monsters came from boulders that come up to 1 foot, down to inches below the surface. Very fly friendly right now. Also seeing mass schools of smaller shad with the occasional boil, can't wait for a few more degrees of heat, this season's topwater bite could go crazy. Saw many more smaller bass that we just passed up and the bluegill are in every cove. Some are really big, some not so much...

Haha! I knew I had to make it happen on the fly, good thing it was a half pound heavier also! I am an angler at heart and will only shun bait fishing. It all makes you a better angler and helps you learn fish behavior. Florida style!

I fished with worms while my son was growing up and even recently when fishing with my "worm fishing buddy" so, I was just messing with you.
