I make very few weedless flies. Lately i have tied in mono loops from behind the shank then when fly is finished tie just behind the hook eye, leave enough so that a fish can get the full hook, but also not too little of a loop to where weeds get it. So, the loops for me have been so the tails/legs of my flies dont foul on the hook. I have used wire gaurds and mono for flats flies and those get tied in last and stick straight out in front of the hook point. With the exception of tulles, im not running into snags at saguaro. On tulles just give constant pressure and it will shred the leaf, releasing the fly. Go get that canoe towed around by a pig!
