Have you ever tried the confluence of the Verde / East Verde? Lots of good smallies in there. Not sure about largemouth. And best of all, extremely limited fishing pressure.

David,

I hope you are well! What is the best point of access for this stretch?

Thanks,

Z

Hey Flats, doing well at the moment, still trying to free up calendar space so I can hit the Ozarks and chase some of those common 5lb browns which inhabit the area rivers. And here I thought retirement was supposed to be a time for, well, retiring from labor... Good thing, a trout lake just opened up less than 45 minutes away from me in NW Missouri, so I can break out my gear and see how my fly placement skills are.

Regarding the confluence of the Verde / East Verde...

Without a doubt, the best access is via canoe or kayak from the Hot Springs.

If that doesn't work, then you'll need to cross the Verde downstream of the Hot Springs, travel over a quaint mule track for a couple miles. Then take another mule trail east down into the confluence.

I would suggest a USFS map to get general directions, then a really good topo to make final trip adjustments.

Some time ago, I had a pretty detailed route written up with FR #'s and approximate distances.
