What an idiot...reminds me of an incident last week on Pena Blanca, a southern AZ lake when I hooked a huge fish on my 5 wt who took a small leech pattern on 3x tippet.

I called for help from my two friends, also in float tubes, for assistance in the form of diving down, maybe with a knife in their teeth like ala Tarzan, to get the unmoving behemoth..and did they do it?

No, so the fish - likely a large catfish who sulked on the bottom until breakoff at 5-10 minutes - escaped, unsurprisingly.

We were in waders, cool water, so dislodging the fish was probably not an option.

We've all been there: rod bent over, line straining to the max, nothing left to exert more pressure. Oh well...

Reminds me of some Bill Dance outtakes.

Maybe he was sick of his wife asking why he goes fishing all the time and never brings home any fish when the grocery store is 3 miles away.

Is that legal to do after a fish breaks off?
It was a good morning chuckle while drinking coffee.

I think that catch was illegal, as not much different than if scuba-diving in lake and taking of fish other than angling!
