East Verde Catch and Release

Greetings!

I got a call about 2 weeks ago from Bob Youtz of TU out of Payson, AZ. He informed me that starting 2014 East Verde waters upstream of the diversion will now be Catch and Release water, how sweet is that! This is very exciting news for me, was hoping they would do this but did not think it was going to happen so quickly. I am still not back home yet, in Pagosa Springs, CO right down the street from the San Juan River. When I am back home next week, I will get more detailed information and Post it. But, for now, I am very confident that it was approved and it will be start in 2014, where and if they will put up signs I am not sure yet. Will provide more information next week.

Happy New Year!

Charlie

Catch and Release signs will be put in place by AZGFD.

I am not sure where the "Diversion" is? Would this include all the creek running past your rental cabin up there and how far down stream?

Good on them. This sounds like a project that the AZGFD may be able to tackle. I'm thinking they can "fast-track" this sign posting project and have it completed by the fall of 2016.

Happy New Year to all, especially the AZGFD ... they really need to have a good year, or two, or three. Hoping the AZGFD makes a new year's resolution to improve Arizona's trout fishery. Which means they stop poisoning thriving ecosystems like Haigler Creek, and stop building Gila trout aquariums and zoos which they're really lousy at.

About 3 miles or so upstream of Cabin. Follow the signs for Washington Park.
