Hawley - NOT Hurricane Update

Here's an update for you all.

We have changed to Hawley because Hurricane is closed.

As of now the trip is still on but there are a few uncertain things.

- Right now they are not processing permits in advance.
- There will be a $5/day fee for boats (not float tubes). You'll probably have to stop and get your own.
- Yesterday they closed highway 260 from Junction 473, (Hawley Lake Turn-off), eastbound. That cut more than half of their lakes off. As of today Hawley is still open.
- We plan to pickup the permits and have them at the lake.
- We will send you the code to the combination lock for the group campground.

Keep a good thought for the families, fire-fighters, animals and forest we love.

Thinking about fishing the ferry that weekend. I'll know more in a couple days. Somebody can have my permit if I head that way.

Hawley, Earl Park, X-Mas, Little Bear, Big Bear, Cooley, Bootleg are all open....and the streams north of Whiteriver is open...but check before heading up, call 928.369.7669 and ask for Virgil (Chezz).

If you have any type of motor attached to it you need a boat permit. If you are just rowing same class as floattube.

Thanks, Bighand. That is probably some of the best info I have seen on at least three or four threads.
How can Hawley be open and how can you get to it? Fishunter & Chief, I believe you, but this is crazy. I thought the road to Hawley was blocked, but don't go by me. I am just reading stuff and trying to keep up!
On the bright side, I won a new fly rod at the raffle at Desert Flycaster's meeting Wednesday night and would love to try it ouT!

There is some clean up work on the East Verde with Trout Unlimited and Payson Flycasters if you don't want to go to Hawley. I think Ragen was going to post about it today, as he is a member and will be there.

P.S. He (Ragen, aka, Mike Arnold) is making a very nice bamboo rod with Heckel's Custom Bamboo shop in Fountain Hills. He just started the wraps today and will finish up next Thursday. Norris Heckel has got a h*** of a shop. You're gonna hear that name more in the future. You heard it here first!

This may not be the right thread but those extra couple of bucks everyone paid, are we still going to get like prizes and have a big fish contest or something?

The issue with Hwy 260 being closed in TRUE, BUT it's closed just after the turn off to Hawley Lake turn off, like 2 feet past the stop sign on the east side..
