Thanks guys, this contest is great. I normally tie mine totally different but looking on the web I decided to try Cravens version. I really like how it turned out and will fish it often now.

For the record, I would have voted for Blurs soft hackle.

Thanks for bowing out Jason. Check your paypal.

you knew that. yer a natural. keep up the good work.

Yup, it really isn't, and it's almost impossible to make it wider, it just bunches up when you tie it off at the head.

It's a good fast and dirty way to fill your box though, and to me the Hairs Ear is an almost formless grey blob anyway.

Nice tie Jason.

Blur, what rib do you use? I can never find the right oval stuff and UTC wire gets lost in the body sometimes.

that stuff jason mentioned - small braided tinsel.

bear in mind that if you wrap ribbing in the same direction as you wrap the dubbing on it will vanish into the body. ribbing should be counter wound - it secures the material and is more evident.

as often as not, I rib w/ krystal flash.

Ahh, that explains why my rid is so hard to see.

Great flies everyone! I meant to jump in on this but never got a fly tied up. I really like that soft hackle Mr Blur tied up. I don't tie and fish those enough anymore but I think might have to change that after the inspiration.

I was on the road Monday-Wednesday and did not take my tying materials with me. However to stay true to the discipline of tying every fly every week here is my version of a winged Gold Ribbed Hares Ear.

#14 hook
6/0 Camel color thread
Ultra fine gold wire
Pheasant tail wings, tail and wing case

My proportions are a little off on the tail and wings but i am confident it will catch fish.

FYI- watch your hares mask around your dog, my dog made mine into a rawhide chew and ate it.

Congrats Norty, nice tie.

Mike I will have you know I am sitting here at my vise and tying for the upcoming swap! The entire time I am tying I am thinking what Mike would say about this fly. You commented about our tails being too long on this FOW, and I just got done tying my last fly. I must have had your comment stuck in my head because now my tail is WAY too short.

Aside from that I can fine a couple other things about this tie I just did that you would hit me for! Its kinda funny. Thanks for keeping me on my toes even when you're not here!
