Broken Fly Rod Tip Section
In my 40 years of fly fishing, I have broken five rods. Two were in Colorado and three here in Arizona. None were on fish. Also in those 40 years, I built the only fly rod I will ever make. It is a 9' medium/fast action on a Fisher blank and it is my all time favorite rod. It's not one that would pass inspection by the fly fishing fashion police but it is a great high sticking, short line, pocket water nymphing rod.
This is one of the rods I broke, last year. It is broken about 12" below the tip. It is not in two pieces but rather, is shattered. I know what to do to attempt to repair it but before I do, I want to do what I've done in years past.
An acquaintance in the Denver area owns a fishing store called, Discount Fishing Tackle. He carries all sorts of fishing stuff he collects by purchasing estate sales and going out of business stores. A bunch of years ago, I was in need of a fly rod tip. I rummaged through a pile of tips and found one that worked. It wasn't perfectly balanced but worked beautifully.
Does anyone know of a source like this in Arizona or does anyone have some old tip sections collecting dust?
The ferrule is not like most you find these days so finding one may be a problem.
