The flies pictured would work great. Realistically, river smallies are not all that particular as long as the fly has good action and its presented relatively near the fish it will work.

I was at the black river in May of this year. They were hitting drys like crazy, my go to was Ben's mini hoppers.... I would fish a hole with some spin fishermen (in our party), I would pull 3-5 fish out of it and they would come up empty. Smallies on drys is one of my favorite combinations! The powerful take followed by a good fight for their size! Enjoy!
