The Slide Fire (Oak Creek)

Well, I never thought it would happen but here it is: The Slide Fire is burning Oak Creek. Sad day for AZ fly fishing.

15 hotshot crews ordered as if 1am. Not a good sign for growth and speed of the fire. But it's in good hands.

Tragedy nonetheless .

Seasonal SW winds would drive this right up the canyon into Kachina Village and Flagstaff. Lets hope the cooler weather and less windy forecast is realized so the crews can do their job.

Laws, Fines, and restrictions make zero difference when one DA has a book of matches.

This sucks.

This state doesn't need fire restrictions it needs Stupid Human restrictions.
If I were king I would simply shut down the forests until it rains. Its impossible to prevent stupidity unless one doesn't give them a chance to do stupid things.

And I am not precluding ME from stupidity.

I don't ride motorized bikes or trikes or quads anymore because I do stupid things when I do. I don't drink tequila when there's a jacuzzi nearby or a toboggan near a dirt hill. I'm not allowed to use gasoline when lighting a hibachi anymore.

It's simple. You remove me for those situations.

Looks like all that C&R, barbless hook section is going to be shot for a long time. Lets hope the West Fork isn't too badly affected, but it's unlikely. At least the state will be able to restock with headwater chubs in about 12 years.
