Kinniknick Lake

I may have mentioned this, last year. Last spring, I planned my first week long outing to Kinnicknick, Ashurst, the Mary Lakes and others. I arrived at Long Lake to find chocolate milk water. All the others were the same so I went home early.

While driving out of Kinniknick Lake, I spotted a small lake to my left. The water looked clear so I drove the 1/4 mile or so to the lake. I was thrilled I found super clear water. I did not see rises and I did not fish the lake. Later, I learned the name of this lake is Cow Lake and it has no fish. What a disappointment. Is it true the lake has no fish and is the lake public? There is a fence around the lake.

For me, clear cold water and fly fishing go together.

lakelady,

Not all water is like Ashurst and Kinnicknick et al. The White Mountains have clear cold water.

Yes lakelady, I know AZ is a desert state or is that a dessert state?

Predominantly a cheesecake state with a smattering of pecan pie.

Its more of a prickly pear jam with refried black bean sandwich washed down with a Dos Equis kind of place. However, a nice trout in a frypan will make a good lunch too.

Well at least you are getting out and trying to find some good fishing. Now that I don't have to spend my weekends going from work to home, I might be able to drive up to some of those rim lakes for some flyfishing real soon.... after the monsoon storms settle down a bit which should also help in clearing up the waters.

If anyone is interested and able to do so, this coming week appears to be simply grand in chasing rainbow, browns and tigers on the Rim waters. No threat of rain, abundant sunshine, temps in the mid 70's, little to no wind other than a mild chop.

Plus, the summer crowds have dramatically diminished mid-week due to vacations coming to an end, school starting up and many prepping for the pending hunting season(s). In other words, no shouting between parents and their kids along the lake shore...quiet...serene...peaceful. You may have to bear the screeching shrieks from the Osprey's and Eagle's, however.

Tuesday / Wednesday looks good for me.

See you on the water!
