Salt River

I am aware of the stocking schedule.
However, there are no evidences of hatchery truck tracks or stocked trout in the Water Users, Blue Point or Phon D sections.

The deluge of 48,000 cfs weeks...

Has there been any evidence of stocking trout in the Salt River in October?

Happy trout

Flows are up around 900 cfs...
The Memorial day crowds have cleared...
And the trout were happy this morning...
Netted 2 nice ones, 12+ inches, just below the bridge...
Pheasant tail, beaded...

Flows are up?

Salt is running at 300+ cfs.
The fish have moved into the riffles and nervous water.
Having great luck just below the bridge with black SSL and pheasant tail nymphs below a fly bobber. I've brought...

Salt River

Dry flies worked well yesterday. Just below the bridge. In the only moving water of that stretch.
Olive body, #16 hook, stiff tan hackles, tan tail. Took 10 in 45 minutes.
Had to throw it directly...

Lower salt river - nymphs?

I appreciate the advice to use soft hackles in the slower water above the bridge.
To my surprise, I had a trout in the net after my 3rd cast. This seems to be the exception because I have not had...

Lower salt river

Just stocked this week.
Plenty of action.
I've been mixing it up.
The big pool above the bridge is very busy, but they are hitting midges at the surface and that's been very hard to replicate for...

Dirty Verde

I have not hooked a trout since the Verde flow has increased, again.
I have also noticed that they are no tired tracks down from the gate.
I suspect that they have not been following the stocking...

Verde Flow

Verde flow is down to a manageable rate and the water is clear at Phon D.
Stockers are not interested in the dry fly yet.
I have been to the bridge and Phon D in the last 2 weeks.
A lot of surface...

Switched off...

Ive been skunked for the last 2 weeks along ALL stretches of the Lower Salt.
Not even a token bite.

This seem to coincide with the sand built up after the latest storm.
No camouflage and no...

Lower Salt River.

Never Mind.
Their still in there. I just had to be patient.
I also had to adjust my drift lines because of the 6 inch drop in water level.

BTW, flows were above 1200 cfs for most of June/July....

Water Levels

The water levels have been decreased significantly over the past week.
The fish must be scrambling because they are not biting.
Anybody else notice the difference?
Any advice as to where they are...

Holdover Trout

As I mentioned previously, the quality and number of trout in the Lower Salt has been improving over the last 18-24 months.

In the last month, I've been able to pull 14-18 rainbows from the...

Holdovers in Lower Salt

I have had the same experience, mostly around Blue Point and the Bridge area. Nice 12+ inch rainbows with "shoulders" on occasion. A couple have broken me off on 5x. I see a couple rising in the...

Stocking Lower Salt

I recently checked the AZGFD website for stocking schedule and they replaced the Winter schedule with the Spring schedule.

I can't find the stocking schedule for this week and next.

Anybody...

Brown trout locations

Thank you, Joe.
I will keep that list handy when I travel outside of Phoenix.
I noticed that none of these bodies of water are within an hour of Phoenix.
I suppose that's how it should be.

Below the confluence with the Verde.
They were just stocked this week and this may be the reason for my unusual success.
I fished in the deeper rifles and then on the slower edge of the seams...

Good advice

I followed your advice and headed to Phon D today.
Mid afternoon they were taking nymphs.
I used a different rig today.

Lower salt-Phon D

I was curious if you fish above or below the confluence with the Verde.
I saw some very picky trout in the shallows above.
It was hard to see anything below because of the significant flow.
One...

I was wondering where the trout end up after they are savaged by the bass near the bridge.
Does azgfd stock trout all along the salt river OR do they dump them at the bridge and let them scatter?
