Pay close attention to the trailer you get. So many of the small boat trailers you see put the boat too high off the ground. This makes it nearly impossible to launch and retrieve in a shallow lake.

Based on what you are doing, I think your 8 wt will be the best choice for 95% of what you will encounter. If you want another rod(and who doesn't) I second the suggestion to get a 10.
