Canyon Creek

Some say a good and quick way to learn quickly is to ask questions.

I'm still learning where to go and what to do in Arizona. On two occasions, I have been to Canyon Creek in the lower section but never the upper. I hear people talk about the upper section but I don't know how to access it.

Will someone help me with this? Thanks.

Instead of taking the right turn on to 534, take the left onto 33. It goes to the upper section where there is a campground and if you continue going, the hatchery. You should check the hatchery out. They are raising Gila trout there. Big plans there for the Gila. I suspect that we are all going to see Gila Trout in upper Canyon Creek soon. Currently they stock it with triploid rainbow trout which cannot reproduce.

I fished a few rim streams on Friday. Lots of snow melt already. Head waters we're clear but farther down each stream it got real milky.

creekhiker, how were the roads? if the snow is melting, the dirt roads are going to be muddy messes. wondering if you drove any of the dirt roads and what kind of shape they were in.

No driving dirt roads, stayed on "maintained" roads. Still washed out in spots. Wasn't greasy at all.

I don't hit dirt roads till firewood season opens.
