Go Figure
Someone help me out here.

For me, a major component of fly fishing is clear water. My first outing in the spring of 2017 was to the lakes southeast of Flagstaff or, as some people say, Flag.

I was very excited for this trip because I used the Coconino NF map to locate lakes like Ashurst, Kinnicknick, Long, Soldier and a slew of smaller lakes. I planned a week long trip, which ended after one night and no wet lines. My first stop was Long Lake. As a friend, whom I met on this forum said, these lakes look like a herd of cattle walked through them. Kinnicknick, Ashurst, and Soldier were the same. Boy, what a disappointment.

Here is the "help me here" and "go figure" part.

Next to Kinnicknick Lake are two smaller lakes. Morton and Cow. Water in these lakes is perfect for me for fly fishing - clear. Now, someone tell me why these lakes don't have fish. That's the go figure part, clear water, not fish, muddy water, fish.

Ashurst used to be clear and was my dadís favorite lake in Arizona. Then a bucket biologist decided Northern pike would be a good idea. The state decided to treat the lake with rotenone to kill off the fish and someone decide to use a herbiced to kill the weeds too. No weeds, no clear water. Another brilliant idea was to put crawdads in there. I guess it has fished ok for the past couple of years, but still isnít what it was
