Someone had a REALLY bad day at 4 mile bar!

Somebody had a REAL bad day at 4 mile. Natalie Jensen found this on top of the bar. This is all that is left of a lower unit...just the prop and all the gears. I guess that the lower unit housing must have exploded on impact with the bar.

Bad day no doubt! I guess it could have been Dam Island...

I used to love sifting through the bottom of certain hazerdous gravel bars looking for pieces of prop/skeg. I had quite the collection at one point in time. Terry, post a pic of yours!

So do you carry a set of Oars with you just in case?

Most of the Guide boats up there are jet-drive (no prop) for the reason shown above and recreational boaters typically run props. People should carry a set of oars or a trolling motor just in case...

Here is part of my 30-year collection. This is a sculpture that hangs on my gate at home. Notice that most of these are skegs (the fin on the bottom of outboards) with a few pieces of props thrown in. I have enough parts to make at least another one of these.

That's pretty cool. That has a lot of meaning for you I am sure. Represents years of your hard work and thousands of dollars of heartache to unsuspecting boaters.
