Frozen Lakes

Are the lakes around Prescott free of ice?

No idea on the lakes you seek, however the lagoons at Dead Horse State Park in Cottonwood are wide open. Bill and I were there this past week.

One couple fishing the middle lagoon from shore (bait fishers) picked up a limit pretty quickly.

Spoke with a local fishing from a toon, and he picked up over two dozen in a few hours using a golden brown wooly bugger.

We were tossing line from the bank and while we had some rainbow chase our bugs, nothing to hand.

Hope this helps even a little bit...

Bucksnort, last I saw Watson Lake had a wee bit of snow and ice around the coves, but that was several days ago after the storm. Fain Lake may be fishable and ice free, as it is lower in elevation in Prescott Valley.

I do know for sure that the forest lakes at a bit higher elevation (Lynx Lake and Goldwater Lake) still have lots of snow around the banks and in the forest. There are even a few spots on the lakes icing over, mostly close to shore. Mingus will be totally frozen over and the road inaccessible anyway.

All, thanks for your responses. This helps. I want to plan a trip to the Prescott area soon. I will head for lower Mary lake across I-17 to JD Dam, the tanks and south to Prescott.

Lower Lake Mary is ice covered. Canít trust the ice either.
