JD Dam

Does anyone have a report on JD? Game and Fish in Flagstaff told me there was a fish kill earlier this past summer.

The fish guy at Region 2 told me it got drawn down quite a bit while being used for a bucket dip spot on a nearby fire. But I seem to remember the fish report saying it was stocked recently. Probably with fingerlings for next spring/summer.

stoneflynut,

I heard it was drawn down for the same reason. I'll bet you are right about the fingerlings but, I'm not picky.

I'd fish Ashurst. We've been catching 2-3 pound rainbow and brown trout along the far side campground cliffs.

looks like elk and perkins tanks were stocked with rainbows last week. not sure if they were catchable or fingerlings, but if the OP is heading to williams, those are options.

BunsbertMontcroff,

This trip will be a small game/fishing trip. I want to check Elk and Perkins so if JD is a bust, I will try those two.

Which route is the best to take to the tanks? Do I go through Williams?

stoneflynut,

Is the water at Ashurst like chocolate milk?

No! It wasn't brown at all. More of a bluish/green and you could see about 2 feet down in the water column. Best I've ever seen it!

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but it has garnered attention to Bill and I...so we're headed up to Ashurst this Wednesday for some brown trout CATCHING!

Now then, what am I in need of replacing in my fly selection...
