Well spring is deffinatly here, so I'll host a "spring swap". Since the lakes are now thawed out for the remainder of the year (mostly), this swap will be of our go to patterns and patterns with real potential this year. Lets keep the swap small lets say 10-12 participants. After the roster is full I'll PM everyone with the adress to send the omvelopes to.

Standard norms apply w/ a couple possible exceptions.

The option of creating an extra set of fly for our esteemed leader and patriarch (Seldom) still stands. Let me know if you are all up for it.

Actual # of tiers is still TBD. I would like to keep this swap @ 10 + 1 = 11. If we have more intrest we can do .

Toe tag yer flies.

Send them in a crushproof container w/ a sase padded mailer for return. do not include metered labels as they are only good the day of purchase. Two std postage stamps usually cover it unless yer container's huge and heavy.

Yikes, hey y'all I am new to the fly swap thing. Is this normal?

I was in one and it took five weeks to get the flies in the mail by the host. Turns out the host was 16 yrs old and had a chance to go to a 4 week baseball camp for free. mailing flies are not as important as baseball. One of the tiers phone and talked to the father then updated the tying board. But, yet I have been in swaps that the flies where never returned. Those were all east of the Mississippi River. Time will tell.

I havent been in a swap since I left Utah, however I was in quite a few back then. When I was the swap Meister, I deivided them up as I received them and generally this was what others did as well. Turn around time was generall 6-8 days after the last of the flies were received.

It sucks having to wait.

You guys keep in mind that Flytier is 13, and it's summer time, and he may be off playing baseball or something and forgot all about the flies. The fact that he is tying some good flies and participating on this board and hosting a fly swap is pretty impressive for any teenager in this day and age. Cut the kid a little slack.

I have been corresponding with flytier via PM today about this swap. Seems he is waiting on one more group of flies that are currently in-route to him from mvtoro. Please note according to flytier, his first set of flies were lost in the mail and never arrived. I told him that the Moderator team expected a couple things from him in regards to this swap.

That it be completed by no later than Wed - Thurs. Which should not be a problem considering mvtoro has already sent his replacement set.
That he keep the members of the swap informed of whats going on.
That if he didnt receive the flies in the mail by mid week that he immediately ship out the flies he has waiting BEFORE the start of the weekend.


In the eyes of the Moderating team that discussed this, this is totally unexceptable. I expect flytier, to post in this thread ASAP concerning the status of the swap.

It is better to keep the swappers informed of delays than keep everyone guessing as to what is happening.

Hey guys.

Sorry that I turned out to be the center of the shiz storm on this one.

If it makes you feel any better, after having the first dozen disappear in the mail between UT and AZ, I'll be the only jerk having to have tied a 2nd dozen for this swap. The extended bodies on these flies are tied instead of just a pre-fab attachment like some you buy, so they take a while. But they fish much better than the others I've seen (Solitude's version always lays on it's side for me)

To add to the fun, my Regal vise finally gave out after years upon years of service. Will no longer hold a size 20 hook. So I just barely upgraded to a Renzetti traveller, and as of now (2:10 am UT time) I'm done with the second dozen. I'll send them out to flytier tomorrow (today I guess).

For those who got hosed and won't get my fly, PM me with your address and I'll tie you a few and mail them to you directly.

Considering some of the members that entered the swap live nowhere near either of these two locations, you will need to mail these as well.

It is the responsibility of the swapmeister to get the flies to each participant. Dropping them off some where for pick up really is not an option. They were mailed to you, you mail them back.

You may have taken a couple lumps on the noggin, but it builds character, right? :ROFL: I probably won't be fishing until after the 4th, but am hoping to do so before then if my son and I get the moving done. Noticed the flows on Da Juan are down to 513 CFS (wish it was a 1000 or better!) this evening. He's coming here to live with me this weekend and I can't think of a better way to start things off. His first fish on a flyrod was a chunky 18" bow he caught on one of Paulito's foam ants. I'm also keeping an eye on the weather to see if it rains up there since I'm off June29 - July 9. With a little luck, we'll catch the ant fall!

Am I the only one who got hosed?! I thought we all did, and I was the only one still being a pain in the @ about it. :;;

Please don't worry about sending me replacement bugs, guys. Mike already sent me some Free Diamond Hair and a DHM for the basis of that drawing I did for the AZFATBC. Deifnately don't want to cost anyone else and I wouldn't want AZFF to have to be the insurance provider for every bonehead move on this site.

I don't know if it's incompetence or dishonesty, but I just don't want to see the kid walk away with over 100 ill-gotten flies. I'm still leaning toward incompetence, (I guess I like to think the best of people ;) ) so I think he'll send mine out.

I understand the concern about this dragging on and maybe discouraging people form participating in future swaps, but I've become Ahab and it's my white whale.

A swap, of course, is only as good as its participants, especially the swapmaster. The way I see it, one blown swap only helps to discourage people who wouldn't get their stuff together.

So Don't worry people! Swaps should be better than ever now.

To show my good faith, I will gladly join the next one. I would offer to host it, but being in Utah it's probably better to have one set of flies being mailed long-distance than having to have all sets done so.

P.S. I still believe the kid is going to send me my set.
