View Full Version : Articulated Flies For Bass/trout

My first time posting pics so wish me well.
The articulated flies are 3"-3 1/2" long, tied with maribou tail, angora goat dubbing, black bead, and use 65# gel spun to connect the 2 hooks. The front hook is cut off at the bend after the fly is completed. Keep the distance between the 2 hooks to about 1/4" or the fly will tangle. Tight thread wraps and superglue keep everything together. I have used these in many lakes for trout and the local smallmouth really like them as well.
The Bass worm has a TMC 8089N trailer, with a 4x mustad up front, crystal braid body, and again 65# gel spun to connect the 2 hooks. Because the crystal braid is moderately stiff the distance between the 2 hooks is about 1" to give the fly an overall length of 5" (and could be made longer).

Yes, beer is good.
I have 5 colors of the crystal braid as shown in the pic and I believe that there are more available.
Not sure exactly what you are expecting for colors like "motor oil" or "watermelon" but almost anything can be dyed.
Actually, I just wanted to see if I could do this right and if this post turns out good with the pic then I am going to have a beer, or 2.
Hope I am not wasting your time.

Not wasting my time. Got me to thinking that instead of dubbing, maybe get some plastic worm dye and drop some pearl crystal chennile in the dye pot on low heat.

Don't know anything about worm dye but if your crystal chenille is the same as mine, it will dye with Rit (or cool-aid). I just tried a small piece. I am still a little embarrassed about not being able to post a large enough pic for you to view so I will send another one as an attachment. I think you will like the looks of the crystal braid.

Was that catch from one of your worms or leeches? Nice striper by the way. THATS What I want or a LM Bass!! Big enough to tow me around in my toon.:ROFL::beer::beer:

I dont care how big a LM you catch, they wont fight half as well as a striper

The way I fish I would still for one or the other. But, I surely do love a smallmouth, and just be happy bluegill don't grow to the size of stripers. Guys with legs hanging down from a toon would not be safe in the water.
