View Full Version : Another Big Bass Lake Plez 5/18/07
Well it was one of those days. I had the opportunity again to go fishing with my boss who also happens to be a tournament bass fisherman and fishes the FLW and US Bass circuit here in the west. I wish I could say technique played a roll today, but I think the location and a bit of luck put my fly in this fish’s mouth. We pretty much spent the day in Coles and fished both back arms along with a bunch of off shore humps. I caught eight fish today and most were in the 10 to 13 inch range, this guy which we think is 6 to 7 pounds came off a hump in about 10 feet of water and I was pretty much just dragging my fly (aka) Rattling Minnow right along the bottom and she picked it up and gave up fairly quickly, she must have been exhausted from spawning. Great fish though, just when I thought I did my best I get rewarded with something better. Alls I can say is I’ve had my share of bad days on this lake and it sure feels good to know you’re doing something right and putting fish in the boat.

Per the prior post from Buddy about lines and etc and I have to say ever since I started using the Orvis Depth Charge wonder line 250 grain my catch rate and confidence has improved by 100%. Good luck out there guys and thanks again for the vote of confidence last week it helped a ton. Jeff

WOW! Solid man. better than anything I have pulled out of Pleasant. you set the bar. Let's see if any other member can do better @ Pleasant. Gentlemen, start your engines! What time of day did momma hit?
Don
Between 9 and 10 A.M., honestly Don my buddy was moving so much today due to the wind it was a bear to fish. Every time I casted and in the process of getting my line down we would move or change direction and my line always ended up behind the boat. So I just took advantage of that and just started running more line out making sure I was feeling the bottom and did ok. The big girl felt like a snag or even a clunk of grass and she finally moved once she was hooked and came right up tried to spit the fly and rolled right over, fish in hand, no fight at all what so ever. The 10 incher's felt like two pounders. My buddy was fishing the DP and Carolina lizard, frogs; swim baits and put me to shame. He knows the lake though, it helps a lot.
Indeed RDF, that's the first thing we said.
Thanks Cinda... Jeff

Great fish, you have earned those fish at Pleasant. Can't wait to get out there with you again and learn some of your new tricks.
Nice fish Jeff....anytime you can put a lmb in the boat over 5 lbs at Pleasant you have a good fish. I know what you mean about fishing with a conventional guy that is moving and pounding areas quickly. You don't have much of a chance of the fish even seeing your fly, let alone eating it. The new lines make it a lot easier to keep your fly in the zone. Come summer time when the fish go deep during the day, we have a better chance if they go to ds'ing. It gives us more time to let the fly get down. I always love it when I put the bigger fish in the boat than the conventional guy....I just wish it happened more often
way to go

I'm bumming the ride tomorrow, in about 5 hours...what is it about the night before a fishing trip and the insomnia that always occurs?
