View Full Version : Shipman's Buzzer

Has anyone else tried this fly or a variation?
It is extremely easy - like the simi-seal leech equivalent for chironomids. I like the concept of having a bit of shimmer and movement.
I added a small beadhead for weight and to help keep the fly in the vertical position. If all goes as planned, I'll give them a test run Friday afternoon. I'm twisting up size 18's and 20's.
I'll post a photo tonight.
On that note, what are YOUR favorite chironomid patterns?

My favorite chironomid pattern is quite simple.
Tiemco 200R
Gun metal 5'64 bead
Red, green, olive, orange, brown, black, white thread wrapped down the shank
Fine gold, copper, or silver wire and a rib
one CDC feather in white or grey as a wing
I also may do a little herl just before the wing or "water bubble"

Got a pic of that one Flats?Dana if you wanna get into Chironomids I am your guy. I discovered them a few yrs ago in Utah and haven't regreted it on bit. They produce when nothing else will..
I love them, BTW, did you know that Chironomids make up over 60% of the diet of stillwater trout? Plus they are by far one of the easiest flies to tie. You caould easily put out over 100 in a half hour or so..
So here are a few crappy photos... I need a good macro lens for shooting such small stuff.
