Alright, after this last fly swap, I have absolutely had it with trying to get any more use out of this vise. Its a basic Thompson model and I've had it for about 20 years or so. My first vise was a pair of vise grips C clamped to the table. Then came the Thompson, a huge upgrade. But after two sets of worn out jaws, I'm thinking rotary. I just got back from Cabelas and played around with all the vises on display. I like the Renzetti traveler model and its about the right price range. There is also a Peak vise that looks nice. I've never used a rotary so I just wanted to get everyone's opinion and thoughts before I plunk down the dough.... Any thoughts?

Talk to sjdriff. He told me what to get and it works amazing, with a small price tag as well.

Fishimus Maximus, I have the Renzetti Traveler and I absolutely love it. If that is the price range you are talking about, I'd go for it. RDF, to honest with you I can't remember what vice I told you to get, it was a clamp vice and I used that one for years and it was a heck of a lot cheaper than the Traveler. If you like the rotating vice, definately the Traveler.

RDF, most definitely. There are some really good clamp style vises out there and I may still go that route. I've been tying for alot of years and have tied just about everything, but I'm thinking I need to step it up a notch to better my quality and speed, etc. I've heard a lot of good things about Renzetti, but the top of the line vises cost more than my first deer rifle.

renzetti traveler I have the older model with 2 screw in the jaws and plan on up grading to the new cam jaws as soon as these wear out. only problem is i have had the vice for over 10 years and no sign of wear on the jaws. I have worn alot of the shine off the top of the arm.
