not quite fly fishing...
Jan 16, 2017 - 4:16 PM - by Ed Mashburn
Good evening to all- Now, I hope this report does not offend anyone, but since moving to Arizona, I am thankful for a fishing trip of any kind.
I didn't fly fish at all, but I did take my grandsons- ages 8 and 4- to one of the canals east of Phoenix proper, and we had a box of worms and a couple of light spinning rigs.
My grandsons have not been able to fish as much as they needed to, and I was glad to get them fishing with me- regardless of the type of gear being used.

Who Are You?

This is optional of course. Some folk would rather keep to themselves. I'm cool with that.

However, I'll Start.

My name is Mike M. and I was born in Tucson in 1969. I am a 3rd generation Arizonan and father of a 4th. I have spent a couple years in Texas and Oregon.

My family was always into the outdoors and made frequent trips all over the state, particularly the White Mountains since we had family up there.

I started fishing when I was a... [Read More]

Stream Flows
Jan 15, 2017 - 9:46 PM - by Bucksnort
I'm curious about stream flows in Arizona.

I'm learning about Arizona fly fishing so knowing where water in streams and rivers comes from is important. In Colorado, no water flows into the state with two exceptions. One is the Green River, which dips in for a short distance in the extreme northwest and the North Platte River, which also dips into the northern part of the state then makes a quick exit. In both cases, neither rivers head water in the state. There are several... [Read More]

Suggestions for Portland in June
Jan 12, 2017 - 9:50 AM - by SAT
My wife and I might be visiting some friends in Portland around the first of June. I was hoping to be able to spend a day or so fishing in the area. I know nothing about Portland so I was hoping you guys might be able to point me in the right direction. At this point I'm not sure what part of Portland we would be in.

For example, what are some suggested waters, fly shops, flies, etc? Should I bring my waders or will I be OK wet wading at that time of the year? The lighter I... [Read More]

Brown trout slaughter at Lees Ferry
Jan 13, 2017 - 12:54 PM - by Dave T
Lees Ferry, on of Az's premier fly fishing destinations is under attack! The National park service at Glen Canyon ordered the slaughter of brown trout. This was done without public notice, or any data to show browns from Lees Ferry travel 80 miles downstream where their precocious chubs live. Where is the outrage?

Been too long Need to wet a line!
Jan 13, 2017 - 12:12 PM - by Tying2Fly
It has been 6 months or more since I have fly fished. I am staying in Tucson this weekend to work OT on Sunday but have Sat off, so want to get out and fish a bit but the weather looks like it might get some rain (80%). I was thinking of going to Parker Canyon Lake since it was stocked this past week. I would prefer to go to Pena Blanca Lake but ever since the winter stockings have started G&F have said poor water conditions have rerouted their stocking of trout to Patagonia Lake. I wont...
